Rise Above Lies: Discover Your Value and Identity in Christ
The Story We All Know Too Well
Maybe you’ve been there—constantly striving, trying to prove yourself, and wondering why peace always feels just out of reach. You’ve heard the truth that “God loves you,” but deep down, you still feel like you’re not enough. Maybe someone’s words or rejection left you believing that your value depends on performance or approval. But friend, that’s not how God sees you. You were never meant to earn your worth—you were created to live from it. And when you begin renewing your mind to that truth, everything changes.
The Lie We Believe
From a young age, we learn to measure our worth by comparison—grades, appearance, likes, or approval. Over time, these external validations form a false identity. When others criticize or reject us, our brains store those moments like files labeled “not enough.” Each time something triggers that memory, the brain plays it back—reinforcing the lie.
But here’s the truth: your value is not determined by what you do, but by who you belong to. God calls you precious, honored, and loved (Isaiah 43:4). You were chosen before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). And through Christ, you have been made righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21). When you root your worth in God’s truth instead of people’s opinions, your mind begins to heal—and your heart follows.
The Science of Renewal
Your brain is wired for transformation. It’s not static—it’s adaptable. Neuroscientists call this neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new neural pathways based on what you think, say, and focus on. Scripture has been saying this all along: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
Here’s how it works:
The amygdala acts like your emotional alarm system, alerting you to threats based on past pain or fear.
The prefrontal cortex, the reasoning center of your brain, gives you the power to pause, reflect, and make Spirit-led choices.
Together, they create a partnership where you can “take every thought captive” (2 Corinthians 10:5) and choose truth over default reactions.
When you intentionally focus on God’s truth, your brain literally changes. Old thought pathways weaken, and new, life-giving ones grow stronger. That’s not just science—it’s sanctification in action.
The Truth That Sets You Free
Ephesians 4:22–24 reminds us: “Put off your old self, be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God.” This is a daily process—choosing to lay down false beliefs and picking up truth. You’re not who others said you were. You’re not the sum of your mistakes. You are a new creation, clothed in Christ’s righteousness, with a renewed spirit and purpose.
God’s Word doesn’t just inform us—it transforms us. When we speak truth, think truth, and live truth, we begin to align our lives with Heaven’s perspective. And in that space, we discover lasting peace and confidence.
The Practical Tool: The R.I.S.E. Method
If you’re ready to replace lies with truth, the R.I.S.E. Method is a simple daily practice to guide you.
R – Renew Your Mind: Start each morning by speaking truth out loud. Say, “I am chosen. I am loved. I am enough in Christ.”
I – Identity in Christ: Write down one lie you’ve believed and one truth from Scripture to replace it. For example: “I’m unworthy” → “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)
S – Scripture Meditation: Spend a few quiet minutes reflecting on a key verse like Ephesians 4:22–24 or Isaiah 43:4. Let it become personal.
E – Express Gratitude: End your day by writing three things you’re thankful for. Gratitude releases peace and helps rewire your brain for joy.
Each time you R.I.S.E., you’re strengthening your mind’s renewal pathways and anchoring your identity in Christ.
Transformation Challenge
This week, take five minutes each morning and evening to practice the R.I.S.E. Method. Pay attention to how your thoughts and emotions begin to shift. When you catch an old pattern or lie creeping in, pause and ask: What truth from God’s Word can I choose instead? Write that truth down. Speak it out loud. Walk in it.
Transformation happens one thought, one choice, one day at a time.
Prayer
Father, thank You that I am who You say I am—chosen, loved, and made new. Help me recognize lies quickly and replace them with Your truth. Teach me to renew my mind daily and to walk in the confidence of my identity in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
